December 05, 2008 Muttart Foundation Releases New Study
The Muttart Foundation has released results of a public opinion poll called Talking About Charities 2008. The Poll helped shape a picture of how Canadians feel about charities. Overall, it was found that Canadians think that the work of charities and not for profit organizations is important, however they would like to hear more details about how the charities utilize funds. November 24, 2008 Woman Bequests $6 million to Dalhousie University in Honour of Adoptive Family
Friday, November 14, 2008: Halifax, Nova Scotia - Dalhousie Medical School’s Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences recently received its largest private donation ever – and one of the largest in Dalhousie University’s history – to advance medical education, research, and patient care in the visual sciences. Margaret (Peggy) St. George bequested more than $6 million to Dalhousie University in honour of her adoptive family.
November 17, 2008 Couple Donates Bulk of Life Savings to Carleton University - A Multimillion-dollar Gift
(Ottawa) – Carleton University announced today a multimillion-dollar gift that will establish an innovative scholarship in its College of the Humanities, a scholarship that will cover all expenses for students who are pursuing a classical liberal arts education. November 17, 2008 New Statistics on Charitable Donors Released by Statscan
Canadian taxfilers reported making charitable donations surpassing $8.6 billion in 2007, up 1.4% from 2006. At the same time, the number of donors fell 0.9% to just under 5.7 million. Data are based on income tax returns filed for 2007. Click to read article from The Daily
